The Pingyao International Film Festival (PYIFF) has officially revealed the line-up for its tenth anniversary edition, with the festival set to commence soon. According to an announcement from Deadline, significant highlights include the opening film, a 4K restoration of Fei Mu’s classic Spring In A Small Town, and the closing feature, Good Trip, co-directed by Hong Kong filmmakers Norris Wong and Hoi Wong.
In addition to the opening and closing films, the festival will present short films like Torino Shadow, directed by Jia Zhangke, one of the festival's co-founders. Torino Shadow is set to premiere during the Fenjiu Night event, which will also feature a live performance by the Chinese rock band Wutiaoren. This year’s festival includes films from diverse regions, highlighting international talent and groundbreaking cinema.
The PYIFF has introduced two exciting competitions: Crouching Tigers, celebrating first, second, and third feature films from international directors, and Hidden Dragons, dedicated to emerging filmmakers working in Chinese-language cinema. Notable titles in the Crouching Tigers competition include Ben'imana, which won the Camera d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and Filipiñana, recently selected as the Philippines’ official Oscar entry. An innovative event called Slices Of Time: An Electronic Remix DJ Set will blend film excerpts with live electronic performances by multiple artists, providing a unique audiovisual experience that celebrates the history of Pingyao.
