The Tokyo Gap Financing Market has confirmed a lineup of 24 new projects and a partnership with Canada’s Frontières Market for the upcoming TIFFCOM.

The Tokyo Gap Financing Market (TGFM) has announced a lineup of 24 projects at this year’s TIFFCOM, taking place from October 28 to 30, 2026. This development was reported by Deadline, highlighting a diverse range of projects from Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Included in this lineup are five projects in collaboration with Canada’s Frontières Market, which focuses on international genre film co-productions.
Tania Morissette, Deputy Director of Frontières, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, stating it offers a fantastic opportunity to connect genre filmmaking communities and open doors for emerging projects. This marks Frontières’ first showcase in Asia, indicating a strategic move to strengthen ties between the Canadian and Asian film markets and to enhance collaborative efforts in filmmaking.
Among the confirmed projects are notable works such as "The Saddest Stories On Earth" by Vietnam's Diep Nguyen Hoang and a body horror film by Brazil’s Gabriela Amaral Almeida. Both filmmakers have received previous accolades, making this a noteworthy selection. Additionally, the lineup features horror-themed projects, including "The Land Of Jinn," inspired by a Kyrgyz legend, produced by Kevin Rahardjo from Indonesia, and "Trinity," a thriller led by Singaporean director Boo Junfeng.
For animation enthusiasts, TGFM will present an omnibus horror project from the team behind the award-winning "The Violinist," which recently triumphed at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The projects aim to push creative boundaries and diversify the film offerings at this year’s event.
TGFM not only showcases these projects but also serves as an industry platform for funding and project development. This year, TGFM is collaborating with the Imagica Group to host the first-ever open pitch event on October 28. Ten selected projects, including those from the Frontières Showcase, will have the opportunity to present their pitches to industry experts.
This strategic initiative aims to facilitate discussions around funding and development, ensuring that the featured projects have a robust support system as they move through the production pipeline.
Now in its third year, TGFM functions as a critical platform within the broader context of TIFFCOM, a renowned content market that attracts filmmakers and industry professionals worldwide. The gathering aims to foster international collaborations, particularly in genre film, where both TGFM and Frontières seek to establish stronger connections across markets.
Running parallel to TIFFCOM, the Tokyo International Film Festival will take place from October 26 to November 4, further enhancing cultural exchange during this period. The strong presence of genre films within both markets illustrates a growing global interest in innovative storytelling, making this announcement significant for filmmakers and audiences alike.
The announcement of TGFM's partnership with Frontières and the reveal of 24 diverse projects signifies a positive step for international film collaboration, especially for the genre film sector. As this showcase aims to bridge gaps between markets, it is expected to impact both funding opportunities and creative partnerships on a global scale.
